Hello! Welcome to the official Double Dead Studio Tumblr, the solodev behind Reanimated Heart, Another Rose in His Garden, and Pygmalion's Folly.
Reanimated Heart is a character-driven horror romance visual novel about finding love in a mysterious small town. There are three monstrous love interests with their own unique personalities and storylines.
Another Rose in His Garden is an 18+ erotic Omegaverse BL visual novel. Abel Valencia is an Omega who's hidden his secondary sex his entire life. Life's alright, until he meets the wealthy tycoon, Mars Rosales, and the two get embroiled in a sexual affair that changes his life forever.
Pygmalion's Folly is a survival murdersim where you play as Roxham Police Department's star detective, hellbent on finding your sister's killer... until he finds you.
Content Warning: All my games are 18+! They contains dark subject matter such as violence and sexual content. Player discretion is advised.
This blog is ran by Jack, the creator.

Guidelines
My policy for fanwork is that anything goes in fiction, but respect my authority and copyright outside it. This means normal fan activity like taking screencaps, posting playthroughs, and making fanart/fanfiction is completely allowed, but selling this game or its assets isn't allowed (selling fanwork of it is fine, though). You are also not allowed to feed any of my assets to AI bots, period, even if it's free.
Do not use my stuff for illegal or hateful content.
Also, I expect everyone to respect the Content Warnings on the page. I'm old and do not tolerate fandom wank.
F.A.Q.
Who are the main Love Interests in Reanimated Heart?
Read their character profiles here!!
Who's the team?
Jack (creator, writer, artist), mostly. I closely work with Exodus (main programmer) and Claira (music composer). My husband edits the drafts.
For Reanimated Heart, my friend Bonny makes art assets. I've also gotten help from outsiders like Sleepy (prologue music + vfx) and my friend Gumjamin (main menu heart animation).
For Reanimated Heart's VOs, Alex Ross voices Crux, Devin McLaughlin voices Vincenzo, Christian Cruz voices Black, Maganda Marie voices Grete, and Zoe D. Lee voices Missy.
Basically, it's mostly just me & outsourcing stuff to my friends and professionals.
How can I support Double Dead Studio productions?
You can pay for the game, or join our monthly Patreon! If you don't have any money, just giving it a nice rating and recommending it to a friend is already good enough. :)
Where do the funds go to?
Almost 100% gets poured back into the game. More voice acting, more music, more trailers, more art, etc. I also like to give my programmer a monthly tip for helping me.
This game is really my insane passion project, and I want to make it better with community support.
I live in the Philippines and the purchasing power of php is not high, especially since many of the people I outsource to prefer USD. (One time I spent P10k of my own money in one month just to get things.) I'll probably still do that, even if no money comes in, until I'm in danger of getting kicked out the street… but maybe even then? (jk)
What platforms will Reanimated Heart be released in?
Itch and then Steam when it's fully finished. Still looking into other options, as I hear both are getting bad.
Will Reanimated Heart be free?
Chapter 1 will be free. The rest will be updated on Patreon exclusively until full release.
Are you doing a mobile version?
Yeah. Just Android for now, but it's in the works.
Where can I listen to Reanimated Heart's OST?
It is currently up on YouTube, Spotify, and Bandcamp!
Why didn't you answer my ask?
A number of things! Two big ones that keep coming up are Spoilers (as in, you asked something that will be put in an update) or it's already been asked. If you're really dying to know, check the character tags or the meta commentary. You might find what you're looking for there. :)
Will there be a sequel to Pygmalion's Folly?
It's not my first concern right now, but I am planning on it.

First Week Outpatient
August 1st-7th
So I discharged around 1pm on that Thursday. For weeks prior I had been taking useless junk home so that on my day of discharge I wouldn’t be walking the hall with ten thousand bags drawing attention to me. I just wanted to leave quietly and not make a big deal about it.
I had to stop at my PACT teams office for my meds. I have a therapist, psychiatrist, case manager and a nurse on my team there. My nurse packs my meds for me in a weekly pill organizer. I’ve always told my IP doctor to not discharge me with a months supply of meds and it just so happened to work out that with PACT they offer the weekly medication pickup. So I went straight there and then headed home because I had a virtual appointment with my therapist at 4.
After that me and my Nana drove my nephew back home in NH cause he had been staying at my Nana’s. On the way back home I stopped to get groceries and was panicking so much in the store. I still remember what stoplight we were at when it became 8:00. Staring at the time I kept thinking I should be back at McLean, this is the latest time you have to return from a pass. This isn’t right. I shouldn’t be outside right now. It’s too dark. That day felt like a pass. I remember freaking out in my kitchen that night, hyperventilating and trying to calm myself down saying “you’re going to be back on the campus tomorrow, less than 24 hours, it’s going to be okay, it's going to be okay”.
Anyways, Jesus, if I write so much nonsense these updates are going to be essays. Stick to the important stuff!! Okay so I started PHP the next day on Friday. I’ll add these in the tags but I’ll post a warning here too. There’s going to be talk of drinking and self harm and restricting. So partial was Friday and then Saturday night I got drunk and self harmed for the first time in over 6 weeks. I bought a 6 pack of White Claw and the whole 6 was just the right amount to get blissfully drunk and escape for a bit. Alcohol affects me differently after having weight loss surgery so I honestly don't know if 6 is the standard or way too much?
Monday I told my program psychiatrist and she wanted to look at my arm but I didn’t have extra bandaids so she told me to bring some the next day. I also met with my program therapist and we talked about starting a diary card and what to track. I told her how since I’ve been home I’m not hungry/eating and I’m not complaining. Saturday when I got drunk all I had that day was applesauce around lunchtime. So I mentioned the word “restricting” and tried to give the short version of my fucked up body image, losing (necessary) weight, losing it in a healthy way and also unhealthy ways at times, that I’ve never been diagnosed with an eating disorder but I know I have a fucked up relationship with food and my body….
So later that evening I got a phone call from disability. I should have applied back in September but instead I didn’t apply until April. They said it could take 6 months before I get a decision on my application. For months I kept checking online to see how much of my application had been looked at it. I needed money and felt like such a financial burden on my Nana. I had just borrowed money from her to pay my phone bill and an hour later disability called asking more questions that I’ve already answered in the past. She said she was the final person to review my application and that she’d be making a decision soon. If my application gets approved then I could be seeing a check within the next 4 weeks...
The following morning I checked my bank account and saw an ungodly amount of money, like two months worth of paychecks from my old job. I could actually pay my Nana back for all the money she’s given me while inpatient and afford to buy stuff to redo my apartment. And after seeing this money in my account I cried, not tears of joy but because I realized that even with this financial issue being lifted it still didn’t change how badly I wanted to end my life. Obviously money doesn’t buy happiness but like that money lifted a huge weight off my chest and it still didn’t matter. My passive SI, self harm urges and depression was shit when I discharged and it was just slowly getting worse.
So back to the timeline. So that "money thing" happened Tuesday morning. I brought bandaids to PHP and mind you I didn’t know what my arm looked like. I didn’t know if it was bad, I just slapped bandaids on it Saturday night and never looked at it again until that day when my doctor looked at it. It was so triggering seeing it. I'm going to get real descriptive here but I've never been able to cut over scars before. Maybe it's what I use but still I've basically run out of room on my go to arm. But drunk I was able to do it and deep. Two cuts, and obviously too much time had passed for me to get stitches but she still wanted me to go to Urgent Care after the program just to make sure it wasn’t infected. I felt like I was wasting their time. Going 3 days later just to get it re-bandaged… the nurse was so nice but the doctor seemed irritated. I think I spent almost 2 hours there, so pointless. They gave me a prescription for an ointment for my arm and they put in my chart that it “could have used stitches”. I never picked up the ointment.
Wednesday when I met with my psychiatrist she brought that up and said that if it happened again she wanted me to get seen right away.
11:19am Wed “I feel strange today. Maybe strange is the wrong word, disconnected? Empty, low, low energy. I can stare at the floor and get lost in my head.”
I started “seeing” my new therapist in the beginning of July but it was always virtual until that day. At 4 I had my first in person appointment and after the day being weird and shitty I was looking forward to it. But it was horrible.
So on the way home I went shopping. Dropped a couple hundred at Aerie and American Eagle and this was the start to my spending sprees. I FaceTimed with that friend I texted and it was a nice ending to the crappy day.

Catch
So over the last few weeks I've been working on Catch. With work and the festive period I haven't had a lot of time; I finally got the opportunity to finish it last night. :)
It has a medium rating but I wouldn't say it's due to the initial foothold and privilege escalation being difficult- it's more due to there being a couple of rabbit holes (all of which I fell into for a period!)
Enumeration
As always, a port scan kicks off the process. Unfortunately I can't show the output of the port scan as during the time I switched laptops and I'm too lazy to power my old one on. xD However, the results were roughly as follows:
Port 80: HTTP (Catch Global Systems main page)
Port 3000: Gitea(?)
Port 5000: Lets Chat(?)
Port 8000: Cachet status page system
Port 80 was the first location I checked. You're greeted with what appears to be Catch's main application:
The signup/login functionality isn't present; I did notice the ability to download a file. The file that downloads is an apk.
For those that are unfamiliar with mobile applications, apk is one of the file formats for an Android mobile application which uses XML and Java. Having a little experience with mobile applications, my first thought was to decompile the apk and check for any hidden hardcoded secrets, usually stored in strings.xml.
To decompile the apk, I used apktool.
$ apktool d catchv1.0.apk
This decompiles the apk to near it's original form and places the resulting files in ./catchv1.0/. From here, I viewed ./res/values/strings.xml and found 3 potentially usable tokens for other applications:
$ grep token catchv1.0/res/values/strings.xml <string name="gitea_token">b87bfb6345ae72ed5ecdcee05bcb34c83806fbd0</string> <string name="lets_chat_token">NjFiODZhZWFkOTg0ZTI0NTEwMzZlYjE2OmQ1ODg0NjhmZjhiYWU0NDYzNzlhNTdmYTJiNGU2M2EyMzY4MjI0MzM2YjU5NDljNQ==</string> <string name="slack_token">xoxp-23984754863-2348975623103</string>
Foothold
With these in hand, I started with Lets Chat at random. Lets Chat is an open-source chat application utilizing a REST api. With it being open-source, it didn't take long at all to find how to use the discovered token:
As you can see, a password for John is viewable in one of the chat rooms. This grants you access to another one of their applications called Cachet- open-source yet again.
Cachet is the last stop before system access; admittedly this is where I fell rabbit hole 1 as I did spend some time trying to use the gitea_token, more out of curiosity than anything. After spending some time on this, however, I gave up and focused on Cachet.
As it turns out, the version of Cachet in use had two pubicly known vulnerabilities related to interaction with the application's dotenv file. One allowed you to leak values set in dotenv while the other allowed you to add new values to dotenv which could be used to achieve remote command execution. This is done by hosting a redis server, altering the dotenv file to make the application use your hosted redis server as a session driver and finally changing the value of the session key after the initial connection to a payload generated by phpggc. Better detail off this is given here.
I did spend some time playing around with the RCE vulnerability here, more out of interest as I haven't had any experience with Redis prior to this and it took me a while to get RCE working as the video doesn't explicitly show the process step-by-step.
Originally, I was getting the token from the source code in the application, adding this as a key with the phpggc payload as the value and then altering the dotenv file to connect to my Redis Server. As the RCE occurs when the client connects the second time and reads the value from the original session token, this didn't work.
I did eventually get this working, uploaded a PHP web shell and upgraded this to a reverse shell; this ultimately proved to be a waste of time as you end up in a Docker instance with no ability to break out of it!
With a heavy heart, I turned to the second vulnerability and leaked the database password from the dotenv file. This grants us access to the server through SSH as WIll.
Privilege Escalation
Privilege escalation was actually quite easy! Some simple enumeration reveals the presence of world-writeable directory /opt/mdm/apk_bin. In /opt/mdm, there is a Bash file verify.sh.
verify.sh is used to verify the legitimacy of apks uploaded to apk_bin and is executed as part of a cronjob which is executed as root. While references to verify.sh cannot be directly found, there is reference to 'check.sh' in the root directory in running processes (netstat -ano.)
The interesting lines of the script are here:
app_check() { APP_NAME=$(grep -oPm1 "(?<=string name=\"app_name\">)[^<]+" "$1/res/values/strings.xml") echo $APP_NAME ...
The function app_check is taking the app_name from strings.xml and echoing it back with no form of mitigation against command injection. For example, wrapping the variable name with ${} would have prevented this vulnerability being exploitable as this would have specified that only variable expansion was expected- the app name would have been echoed back as a string and not interpreted as a literal Bash command.
I tested this first by simply making the app name 'Catch; touch /opt/mdm/heuheu' and uploading it using python -m SimpleHTTPServer on my end and curl on Catch's end which achieved the expected outcome.
I did this with APK Editor Studio after encountering some errors trying do manually decompile and then recompile with apktool. Note that you also need to create a key for signing the APK as verify.sh uses jarsigner to verify this.
will@catch:/opt/mdm/apk_bin$ ls -al .. total 16 drwxr-x--x+ 3 root root 4096 Jan 6 21:55 . drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Dec 16 2021 .. drwxrwx--x+ 2 root root 4096 Jan 6 22:03 apk_bin -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jan 6 21:55 heuheu -rwxr-x--x+ 1 root root 1894 Mar 3 2022 verify.sh
From here, I went old school and just made /etc/passwd fully accessible by everyone before changing root's password to 'mwaha'
Generating the password:
$ openssl passwd mwaha KW56XEY7wxZuU
Where the password is added in /etc/passwd:
root:KW56XEY7wxZuU:...
There you go. ^-^

CAKE PHP DEVELOPMENT
What is CakePHP?
CakePHP is an open-source web framework written in PHP scripting language for web development based on the core PHP framework and MVC architecture. MVC architecture mostly Centre on model, view, and controller of the specific project to give logical separation of code from the end user.
CakePHP was created by Michal Tatarynowicz in April Year 2005. The framework gives a strong base for your application. It can hold each aspect, from the user’s beginning request all the way to the final supply of a web page.
And since the framework follows the fundamental of MVC, it permits you to simply customize and expand most aspects of your application.
The CakePHP also gives a simple organizational structure, from filenames to database table names, keeping your whole application constant and logical. This concept is easy but impressive. Go around with the protocol and you’ll always know absolutely where things are and how they’re arranged.
Here’s a quick list of CakePHP features such as:
It follows MVC architecture
Rapid development
Application scaffolding
Active, friendly community
Built-in validations
Secure, scalable, and stable
Flexible licensing
Localization
Why select CakePHP for website development:
1. Compatible : The Cakephp is compatible with several versions of PHP as well as with the in demand website directories.
2. Customizable Elements : The Elements residing inside the framework are simple to redesign and understand.
3. No Download Required : There is no requiring downloading the whole package as you can get started by directly installing the database.
4. Code Reusability : Coding from scratch isn’t needed as code-written can be used so many times in the project decrease time and effort.
5. MVC Pattern : Huge apps need a structured pattern to get started, which CakePHP offers with its special MVC pattern.
6. Code Simplicity : Easy code written in PHP can do the trick for you. The framework is simple, successful and high on areas like security and session handling.

PHP Updates and their Impact on Web Development
PHP, a widely acknowledged server-side scripting language is a great tool for web app development teams. As researched by the web technology survey portal W3 Techs, “75.9% of all websites are powered by PHP.” It’s interesting how PHP has undergone significant transformations since its inception to address the ever-growing needs of web development. What started as a tool for generating basic dynamic web pages has grown into a powerful language capable of supporting large-scale applications. So, let’s explore PHP’s evolution and the crucial updates so far.
Major PHP Updates from inception till date
1. Early Versions (PHP/FI to PHP 3)
PHP/FI (1995): The journey of PHP began when Rasmus Lerdorf created a simple set of CGI scripts with the basic feature of form handling. He named it as ‘Personal Home Page/Forms Interpreter (PHP/FI) and used it for tracking visits to his online resume.
PHP 3 (1998): The real breakthrough came with PHP 3, when Andi Gutmans and Zeev Suraski rewrote the PHP core. PHP 3 introduced a more structured syntax and improved functionality, establishing PHP as a full-fledged scripting language for web application development.
2. PHP 4 (2000)
Zend Engine 1.0 (performance optimization and memory management)
Output buffering and session handling
Object-Oriented Programming (OOP)
3. PHP 5 (2004)
Zend Engine 2 (further performance improvements and extensibility of the language)
Improved OOP Support features like better support for classes, methods, inheritance, interfaces, and constructors/destructors
Exceptions (for error handling)
PHP Data Objects (PDO) extension (for consistent interaction with databases)
4. PHP 7 (2015)
New Zend Engine 3 named PHP Next Generation (PHPNG): improved memory usage and made applications run much faster.
Return Types and Scalar Type Declarations: type hinting (e.g., int, float, string, bool) and the ability to declare return types in functions: made the code more predictable and easier to debug.
New syntax features: the null coalescing operator (??) and the spaceship operator (<=>): made the code more concise.
Throwable interface for exceptions and errors: Improved issue detection and error handling
5. PHP 8 (2020)
PHP 8 is a crucial update as the features introduced are not just incremental improvements; they represent a new era for PHP that aligns it more closely with modern software development practices. Here’s an overview of all the PHP 8 versions.
PHP 8.0 (Released December 3, 2020)
JIT (Just-In-Time) Compilation: expedites performance by compiling code into machine code at runtime.
Union Types: Allows functions and methods to accept multiple types of values.
Attributes (Annotations): Offers a new way to add metadata to classes, methods, and properties using a new syntax.
Named Arguments: Call functions with arguments specified by their names, improving readability.
Constructor Property Promotion: Combines constructor assignment and property declaration to minimize boilerplate code.
Match Expression: A new match expression similar to switch but with safer comparisons and return values.
Nullsafe Operator: The mechanism of “method chaining” on potentially null values; no explicit null checks required.
Trailing Commas in Parameter Lists: Enables trailing commas in function and method parameter lists.
PHP 8.1 (Released November 25, 2021)
Enumerations (Enums): Introduces a native enum type for defining a set of possible values.
Fibers: Allows for cooperative multitasking by providing a way to pause and resume functions.
Readonly Properties: Properties that can only be written once and then become read-only.
Enhances array unpacking to handle string keys.
Intersection Types: Allows combining multiple types into one, requiring a value to satisfy all specified types.
Internal optimizations, including JIT compiler improvements.
PHP 8.2 (Released December 8, 2022)
Read-only Properties: Expands the readonly feature from PHP 8.1 to allow class properties that can be assigned a value only once.
Disjunctive Normal Form Types: Improves type system flexibility by allowing complex type expressions.
New Fetch Style for PDO::FETCH_MODE: Adds a new fetch style for PDO that makes working with database results easier.
Deprecations and Removals: Modifies or removes certain features and functions deprecated in earlier versions.
Performance Enhancements: Includes various optimizations and bug fixes for improved performance.
PHP 8.3: The Latest PHP Version (Released September 10, 2024)
The latest stable release of PHP is PHP 8.3, which continues to enhance security, performance, and compatibility with modern technologies. Key improvements in this version include better error handling, optimized performance (e.g., reduced memory usage and faster response times), and enhanced compatibility with frameworks, libraries, and emerging technologies such as Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) and WebSockets. PHP 8.3 also strengthens security by providing updates to protect apps from potential threats, making it essential for developers to stay updated.
Top Highlights of PHP 8.3 at a Glance
1. Readonly Classes
PHP 8.3 introduces the ability to declare an entire class as readonly, meaning all properties in that class are implicitly readonly without the need to declare them individually. This simplifies the usage of immutable objects and enforces immutability across the class.
readonly class MyImmutableClass {
public int $id;
public string $name;
}
2. json_validate() Function
A new json_validate() function is added to validate JSON strings without fully decoding them. This comes in handy when you need to check the structure or syntax of JSON data before you work with it.
$isValid = json_validate('{"name": "John"}'); // returns true if valid
3. null Return Types
PHP 8.3 introduces null as an explicit return type, allowing developers to declare functions that can only return null.
function myFunction(): null {
return null;
}
4. Generator Improvements
Generator::throw() now works as expected with Generator objects, allowing the throwing of exceptions into generators more consistently. This can be useful for error handling in asynchronous code or lazy evaluation scenarios.
$generator = (function() {
try {
yield 1;
} catch (Exception $e) {
echo $e->getMessage();
}
})();
$generator->throw(new Exception("An error occurred"));
5. New is_any() and is_none() Functions
PHP 8.3 adds the is_any() and is_none() functions to make it easier to check multiple types or values in one go.
$value = 'example';
if (is_any($value, 'string', 'integer')) {
// Do something
}
if (is_none($value, 'array', 'object')) {
// Do something else
}
6. Disjunctive Normal Form (DNF) Types
Type unions can now be used in disjunctive normal form, improving flexibility when specifying complex return types or parameter types.
function process(mixed $value): (int|float)|(string|bool) {
// Function logic
}
Other Improvements
Array Unpacking with String Keys: PHP 8.3 improves array unpacking by allowing the use of string keys; this was previously limited to integer-indexed arrays.
New Functions: Various new built-in functions, such as str_truncate(), have been added to make string handling more flexible and performant.
Performance Optimizations: There are further performance improvements, particularly in opcache and memory handling, continuing the performance gains seen in PHP 8.x series.
PHP 8.4: Upcoming Update
PHP 8.4, to be officially released on November 21, 2024; promises to bring valuable improvements and features, enhancing both performance and developer experience. Currently, it is undergoing the pre-release phase, transitioning through Alphas, Betas, and Release Candidates.
Expected Features
Property hooks RFC will make it easier to manage properties with less boilerplate code.
The technique of “method chaining” without parentheses is a nice convenience
JIT improvements should help with performance and memory usage
The deprecation of implicit nullable types will encourage more explicit type declarations
The new DOM HTML5 support is great for handling modern HTML content.
How to Prepare for PHP 8.4?
Testing: Ensure your codebase is compatible with the new version by testing in a staging environment.
Updating Dependencies: Check and update any third-party libraries or frameworks to ensure compatibility with PHP 8.4.
Review RFCs: Stay informed about new RFCs and feature additions to leverage the new capabilities effectively.
Takeaway
The evolution of PHP continues, and with each version, it becomes a stronger and more versatile tool in the developer's toolkit. If you haven’t upgraded yet, now is the time to explore what PHP 8 can do for your projects. Whether you're building small-scale applications powered by PHP or enterprise-level software, these updates will make your development process smoother and more efficient.

What is Canvas ChatGPT and How Should You Use It?
ChatGPT has been one of the most recognizable AI chatbots in the business industry since the end of 2022. Now, OpenAI’s ChatGPT is set to take another leap forward and become the most popular AI with its new integration: Canvas ChatGPT.
Since it’s set to become available to ChatGPT Free users soon, let’s learn how to use it!
What is Canvas ChatGPT?
Canvas ChatGPT is a new version that adds to ChatGPT and goes beyond simple chatting. It’s like ChatGPT’s partner, and opens up in a separate window, allowing ChatGPT to collaborate with it on a project. This new version of ChatGPT is a beta interface that presents a new way of working together by creating and refining ideas. The main focus is on making the content generation process more interactive, feature-rich, and fun for users.
What can you use Canvas ChatGPT for?
Everything you can use ChatGPT for but twice better! This includes:
Blog posts/Articles
Emails (professional/marketing)
Social media post designs
Website coding
Story writing
And more!
But you may wonder why you need Canvas if ChatGPT can already do all these things. Well, ChatGPT is an impressive tool for conducting research, generating ideas, and being a good chatting partner, Canvas is for when you need to create content that you want to show others, such as business articles, college research papers, coding, and more.
Moreover, it’s an intellectual approach for ChatGPT, since it activates Canvas the moment it detects a need for it.
Canvas ChatGPT: Features
This new version of ChatGPT comes with unique and advanced features that aren’t present in ChatGPT:
Once ChatGPT generates a text, you can edit it by adding new text, removing specific lines and words, or updating the formatting with Canvas.
It can suggest changes or modifications you can make to any content you’re working on and make it sound even better.
It can easily shorten or lengthen the generated content and customize it according to the adjusted prompts for specific learning outcomes.
Canvas offers a reading level adjustment that can rewrite content at different reading levels, beginning at the kindergarten stage and ending at graduate school.
Users can work together on projects and form teamwork and peer learning through the new chat functions. Moreover, you can ask it to give your content a final check-up, with grammar check, and final polishing.
It can add relevant emojis through your content where it's required and appropriate.
Since ChatGPT is limited when a user works on projects requiring editing and revisions, Canvas delivers a solution.
Canvas ChatGPT: Coding Speciality
Coding is a repetitive process, and it can become tricky to keep up with the code revisions in chat. Canvas makes it easier to track ChatGPT’s changes and helps us understand our work better.
ChatGPT provides inline recommendations for reviewing and improving your code.
You can insert print statements and add logs to help you with debugging and understanding your code.
Canvas incorporates comments into the code to make it easier for users to understand.
It detects and rewrites problematic code to fix bugs and errors.
It can translate your code and port it to a language, such as JavaScript, Python, PHP, etc.
How to use Canvas ChatGPT?
For now, Canvas is only available for ChatGPT Plus users, so the only way you can use it, for now, is by purchasing ChatGPT Plus, here are the steps:
After creating a ChatGPT Plus account, choose the Canvas model from the dropdown menu at the top left corner and choose “GPT-4o with canvas.”

How to Manage Your Website's Technical Debt – Speckyboy
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/how-to-manage-your-websites-technical-debt-speckyboy/
How to Manage Your Website's Technical Debt – Speckyboy
The web seems to move at the speed of light. The tools and best practices we use today will soon be outdated. It’s a vicious cycle we repeat again and again.
That often leaves us with some form of technical debt. It could be a WordPress theme that isn’t compatible with the latest version of PHP. Or a hacked-together layout that won’t adapt to future needs. The worst case is software that is no longer supported.
It will impact every website sooner or later. There are ways to manage or even prevent it, though.
So, how do you keep technical debt from becoming a nightmare? Let’s review a few tips for minimizing the impact.
Unlimited Downloads for Web Designers
Starting at just $16.50 per month, download 1,000s of HTML, Bootstrap, and Tailwind CSS, as well as WordPress themes and plugins with Envato Elements. You will also get unlimited access to millions of design assets, photos, video files, fonts, presets, addons, and much more.
Build with Sustainability in Mind
The first step is to reduce the chances for technical debt to take hold. In practice, it’s about building with sustainability in mind.
There are several things you can do. For one, use tools that are popular and well-maintained. It’s not a guarantee of smooth sailing. It does increase the chances of future viability, though.
Let’s use WordPress as an example. The content management system (CMS) has existed for over 20 years. It is continually updated. A large ecosystem of themes and plugins is also thriving.
Perhaps there’s another CMS that catches your eye. It hit the market only recently – there aren’t many users yet.
There’s nothing wrong with this new CMS. But is it sustainable? Only time will tell. Therefore, it may not be the best long-term solution. Using it comes with some level of risk.
Best practices also guard against technical debt. Use the latest standards when writing code. Don’t rely on CSS hacks to build layouts. Comment your code and take detailed notes.
The idea is to think about the present and future. That could save you some headaches down the road.
Perform Regular Audits of Your Website
The status of your stack can change in an instant. Thus, it’s a good idea to perform regular audits.
A website audit should cover both hardware and software. On the hardware side, make sure your web hosting is still viable. Check your site’s performance and resource usage. The results should tell you if you need to upgrade.
You’ll also want to look closely at the software you’re using. Start with the server’s OS. Move on to versions of PHP, MySQL, or whatever you have in place. These items are crucial to your site’s well-being.
From there, it’s time to look at your CMS, themes, and plugins. Also, review any software dependencies – JavaScript libraries are a good example.
Look for outdated items. Are updates available? Is it still actively maintained?
This process will help you identify potential problems. From there, you can take action.
So, how often should you audit your site? A yearly review is fine for small websites. Large and mission-critical sites would benefit from biannual or quarterly inspections.
Use Change as an Opportunity
Perhaps you found an item or two that needs addressing. That’s OK – change is inevitable!
The good news is that change also presents an opportunity. You can reassess how your website is working. There is a chance to build a more stable foundation for the future.
In some cases, you may have to swap one item for another. For example, maybe a WordPress plugin you use has been abandoned.
Now is the time to find a replacement that will offer better longevity. It’s also possible that you no longer need what the old plugin offers. That’s one way to reduce technical debt.
You might also need to modernize your code. We often do this when dealing with PHP compatibility issues.
It’s not only a chance to use the latest version of PHP. You can also look for ways to improve functionality and security. After all, reviewing the code you wrote years ago can show how far you’ve come. There’s a chance to build it better and stronger.
You can do more than bring your website up to date. You can also make forward-thinking changes. The hope is that you can lessen the technical debt you have today – and for the future.
Take Control of Your Site’s Technical Debt
Every website will deal with technical debt. That’s part of its lifecycle.
The difference is in how much debt you’ll face. Critical thinking early in the site-building process can reduce your burden. To that end, always search for the most stable and functional solution.
Changes will come eventually. That’s an opportunity to recalibrate your approach. You can review what works and what doesn’t. The lessons you learn will come in handy as your site evolves.
The key is to think about each step you take. Consider how it will impact your site today, tomorrow, and a year from now.
You probably won’t eliminate the need for change. However, you can learn how to make change more manageable.

8 Best Laravel Homestead Alternatives for Efficient Development
Laravel Homestead has always been a favorite for Laravel developers when it comes to creating a development environment. But, as developers’ needs and preferences change, it’s important to check other options that might better meet those needs. In this post, we’ll look into eight good alternatives to Laravel Homestead that can help you improve your development process and make things more efficient.
Top 8 Laravel Homestead Alternatives
1. Laradock
Laradock is a strong development environment made for Laravel and other PHP frameworks, based on Docker. It has a lot of pre-set services and tools, making it easy to set up and manage your environment. With Laradock, you can run your Laravel apps inside Docker containers, giving you flexibility for different setups. It supports many services like MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Redis, making it a good choice for different types of projects.
2. Lando
Lando is a free tool made to make local development and DevOps easier for Laravel. It makes it simple to set up and manage your development environment, ensuring that your local setup is the same as your live setup.
3. Docker
Docker is a well-known platform that lets you put your app and its dependencies into a single container. This makes running and setting up your Laravel app across different setups easy. Docker is lightweight and effective for managing development environments, making it a strong choice compared to Laravel Homestead.
4. Takeout
Takeout gives a local development environment for Laravel using Docker. It has an easy-to-use interface that makes it simple to manage your development setup, letting you start, stop, and change your containers with ease.
5. Vessel
Vessel is a light and easy development environment for Laravel, also built on Docker. It offers a simple way to set up and manage your environment, making it great for developers looking for a quick solution.
6. Vagrant
Vagrant is a tool for building and managing virtual development environments. It lets you create lightweight, repeatable, and portable environments. While Homestead uses Vagrant, you can also use Vagrant on its own to set up your environment.
7. XAMPP
XAMPP is a well-known cross-platform solution that includes the Apache server, MariaDB database, and tools for running PHP and Perl scripts. It provides an easy setup for developing Laravel apps.
8. WAMP
WAMP is a Windows-based environment that includes Apache, MySQL, and PHP. It offers a simple way to create a development setup for Laravel apps on Windows.
Criteria for Choosing a Homestead Alternative
When picking an alternative to Laravel Homestead, think about the following points to ensure it fits your needs:
Ease of Setup: Does the option need a lot of setup, or is it ready to use? A simple setup can save you time.
Performance: Check the speed, how much resources it uses, and its ability to grow. A fast setup helps make your development smoother and avoids slowdowns.
Flexibility and Customization: Look for options that let you easily change PHP versions, web servers, and other important parts. Being able to automate changes adds to its flexibility.
Integration: See if the option works well with your IDEs, CI/CD pipelines, and other tools. It should also work with cloud services to make your workflow smoother.
Security Features: Look at the security features like isolation, encryption, and checking for vulnerabilities. A safe environment is key to protecting your projects.
Community Support and Documentation: Choose an option with good community support and clear instructions. This helps you learn and solve problems faster.
Cost: Think about if the option is free, open-source, or if it needs a subscription or one-time payment. Compare the cost with the value it gives.
Conclusion
While Laravel Homestead is a great option for setting up a development environment, it’s not the only one. By looking at the eight alternatives mentioned, you can find a solution that fits your needs and preferences better. Whether you want a light option like Vessel or a more detailed environment like Laradock, there’s an option that can help improve your development process and make you more efficient.
